This corner between the fire road and the steps up to the summit was nothing but blackberry and cotoneaster a few years ago. But with aggressive weed removal and judicious replanting, the slope is largely restored now with western sword fern, red current, Pacific reed grass, California fescue, fringe cups, and Douglas iris. It is now a complex understory community instead of a biological waste.
